My Yard Is a Mess After Winter and I Don’t Know Where to Start

You walk outside in March and just stop. The yard looks terrible. Palm fronds everywhere, dead growth piled up along the fence, shrubs that went completely wild, and the lawn looks thin and patchy in spots. It’s frustrating because you feel like you should be able to handle it yourself, but you don’t even know where to begin.

Why Florida Yards Get This Bad

People assume that because Spring Hill doesn’t get hard freezes, the yard just coasts through winter. It doesn’t. Grass slows down and thins out while weeds keep pushing through. Shrubs need to be cut back hard, not just touched up. Edges along every driveway, walkway, and bed line need to be cleaned up because that’s what makes a yard look abandoned. Then everything that came out needs to be hauled away. That last part is where most homeowners get stuck. The volume of material that comes off a neglected yard fills a truck fast and it’s heavy, dirty work, especially once the Spring Hill heat starts creeping back in March and April.

Waiting Makes It Worse

Spring moves fast here. By April the rain picks back up and everything starts growing hard, including the weeds. Bare spots that might have filled back in on their own get taken over before new grass has a chance. Debris sitting in beds starts breaking down and creating moisture and fungus problems. What looks rough in February looks out of control by May if nothing was done.
